Reunited with Nancy

Last week I was reunited with the fabulous Nancy Birtwhistle, Bake Off Champion of 2014. We were both speaking about baking at an event and it was so great to see how far Nancy’s come since the tent last summer. We are filming the new series at the moment and it’s so funny to look around the tent and wonder who is going to be this year’s ‘Nancy’! I can’t say much about the show as I don’t want to spoil the special magic of the show by giving away any tips. I can however say this; it’s going to be a good year, in fact it’s going to be better than ever. We have an interesting group this year and the bakes are a mixture of easy and REALLY difficult. Lots of people have been asking me when Bake Off will be back on. I am afraid I can’t answer that as the BBC only release dates a few weeks before the show starts. However, the show normally starts in August, so keep an eye on my Facebook page and Twitter and as soon as I know I will let you guys know.

Apart from Bake Off I have been travelling around a bit over the last couple of weeks. I visited the Highlands for the first time and was really knocked out by how stunning it is up there. I also managed a trip to the seaside for an ice cream with my son as the sun came out this weekend.

Ice Cream & Daleks

I have had another crazy few weeks baking and travelling. As you can see from the picture I managed to grab a few days in Italy recently. As well as a bit of relaxing and enjoying the warmer weather I was also there on official baking business. It’s all top secret now, but keep an eye on my blog for news later in the year.

As well as abroad I have been travelling up and down the country. Over the bank holiday weekend I was lucky enough to be up in Media City for the Salford Quays Food Festival. This was a brilliant event because as well as getting up to my usual baking fun, (it was Bakewell Tart this time!), I got to hang out with some Daleks, knock on the door of the Tardis and to top it all off my darling Mum dropped by. Bake off is in full swing and I wish I could let you in on all the baking fun we have had so far, but obviously that would completely ruin the surprise. I can say just how impressive this year’s team are so far.

The Wait Is Over . . .

So it’s finally that time of year, the tent is open and I get to share a G & T with my Bake Off family! We have had the first weekend of filming and wow the standard is high this year. Every year I am more and more impressed with our amateur bakers, and every year I have to raise my judging game. This year is no exception. Obviously I can’t tell you anything yet, but keep an eye on my blog over the next few months and you might get some behind the scenes gossip from GBBO series 6.

Apart from Bake Off I have been really busy over the past few weeks with some secret filming opportunities. Some will have to remain a secret for a bit longer, but I can let you know that next weekend I will be appearing on the new series of Celebrity Squares presented by the brilliant Warwick Davis. I will be appearing alongside Julian Clary amongst others. Don’t forget to tune in on Sunday 3rd May at 7.15pm on ITV.

Two weeks ago I was joined by Bezza at the BBC Good Food Show Spring in Harrogate. It was a brilliant day of baking and I really enjoyed meeting everyone who came, as well as the fabulous Hairy Bikers. If you couldn’t make it to Harrogate but would like to come see me bake, then I will be appearing at the Lowry Food Festival in Media City Manchester on the 3rd May.  I hope to see lots of you there.

Spring is here . . . Finally!

So I think we can safely say that Springtime is finally here . . . hooray! I had a lovely Easter weekend with lots of family and lots of eating.

With Springtime round the corner it can only mean one thing, it’s nearly time to get back in the tent! As soon as the sun comes out I start getting excited about filming the new series of The Great British Bake Off and hanging out in the sunshine with my brilliant Bake Off family. After such an eventful season last year I can’t imagine what’s in store for us this year.

With only weeks before Bake Off begins filming I am very busy with some very exciting TOP SECRET filming. I can’t say anything yet, but keep an eye on my Facebook page and all will be revealed very soon.

In between filming I will be doing some live baking with the fabulous Bezza at the BBC Good Food Show Spring in Harrogate this weekend, and then on my own at the Lowry Outlet Food Festival at the beginning of May. Check out my Calendar pages for dates and details and come and say hello.

Happy Easter

My Easter newsletter went out to all my fabulous subscribers last week. With exclusive recipes and an interview with the lovely Sally Gunnell I hope you guys enjoyed it. I have been back in the kitchen recently doing what I love the most . . . baking. I have been filming some short films with the brilliant Grainchain.com. As soon as they are available to view I will let you all know.

Don’t forget with Easter approaching you must check out my Simnel Cake and Hot Cross Bun recipes. I know it’s easy to buy Hot Cross Buns in the shops, but I promise homemade ones really do taste better!

Have you got your red nose yet?

Sorry not to have written in a while.  I have sneaked off for a quick family break in Dubai. We have experienced the most incredible cooking, a nightclub on a beach and some amazing views from the loo! Check out my Instagram @bakerhollywood for pics from my trip.
